Now, I'm not saying that I condone communism or whatever Russia's politics are, but I thoroughly agree with them when they say that Americans are Nazis. From the Wikipedia article on Eugenics in the United States:
The Rockefeller Foundation helped develop and fund various German eugenics programs,[117] including the one that Josef Mengele worked in before he went to Auschwitz.[15]
So, I guess I'm just saying: here it is in black and white that Americans directly informed and inspired the genocide that took place in under 100 years ago in Germany. It's not like it's a secret either. I already knew that Hitler loved and was inspired by America. Eugenics programs were popular in America well before Hitler came to be elected. Earlier up in the Eugenics in the United States article, it talks about the origins of the popularity of eugenics here and how the anglo-saxons and nordics believed their genetics to be superior to that of any other race, naming specifically the jews to be among those who were inferior.
These proponents of eugenics often cited studies to justify their claims of the superiority of one race over all others, but what seemingly everyone is ignoring or just doesn't care about is the fact that these "studies" are just based on these peoples' made up personal preferences, and they're passing them off as fact. So, not much has changed in science, I guess! Most of the people who were being sterilized were being operated on either against their will or without their knowledge. One example is that the people signing papers to be sterilized were illiterate. Also, black women in the south underwent what is known as a "mississippi appendectomy" in which a black woman going to the hospital to give birth or for other medical treatment is unknowingly given a hysterectomy so that after returning from the hospital, she is "mysteriously" unable to bear another child. Other groups that are targeted for such sterilizations are latinas, native americans, asians, and immigrants.
So, yadda yadda, in 1973 or so, these savage eugenic practices received some media attention, so they started passing laws about informed consent, making sure the people undergoing the procedures understood that if they were on welfare, they wouldn't lose welfare benefits if they opted out of the operation (victims had previously been led to believe the falsehood that welfare benefits would be withdrawn if they did not consent to sterilization). Things like that. It seems to me, though, that no one really cared and still to this day no one cares. Non-consensual sterilizations are ongoing in women's prisons. California, believe it or not, from the 30s to the 50s or so, had more sterilizations than all other 32 states combined where sterilization programs were established. I may be remembering the dates wrong, but it's all there in the article--until someone goes in and edits it to try and discredit me, but, like I said: no one seems to care anyway.
I kept thinking, surely this gets better at the end, but it doesn't.
Talking about this with Adam, he brought up a good analogy I thought I'd outline and paraphrase: because humans are the most advanced species on the planet, we should eradicate all the lions, the tigers, the bears, the fish, the insects, everything else because humans are the best and most advanced species, but that would disrupt and utterly destroy the entire ecosystem upon which we advanced and smart humans rely. Another good analogy: just because the nursery ants in an ant colony aren't as strong as the soldier ants, it doesn't mean the nursery ants aren't valuable to the entire system of ants. Without the nursery ants, there would be no ant colony!
In reading this article on eugenics in the YouNazied States today, I can't say that I'm surprised by anything that I have read, but I will say my eyes are wide at the horror. I learned yet another reason to be ashamed to have been born in Indiana. Indiana was the first place in the world to implement sterilization programs and host "better baby" contests that were advertised as a way to just check your baby's health, but the metrics were heavily biased toward their utterly stupid racist preferences so that white babies always won the contests. In fact, black babies weren't even allowed to compete for the cash prizes. And it just kept going. I kept thinking, surely this gets better at the end, but it doesn't. Then again, I suppose maybe, perhaps, hopefully, we are not yet at the end. Comments are closed.
